this shows the layers of color...aztec gold, chestnut brown and purple in this case...

Hi flore--I put the jar in a pan of water and heat until the top of the jar (not the lid, the top of the jar) seems quite warm...warm to the touch but not unpleasantly so. then turn the stove off and let jar sit overnight (about 12 hours) in the hot water, cooling gradually...

Thank you Rita! So you keep the lid closed then. I thought it would "explode" lol!
I suppose it might if you got it so hot it boiled the water in the jar...but i never get it nearly that hot!
