leaf dyeing

Yesterday, while out mowing the lawn in the 2 hours of not rain...(don't ask...what a mess) I trimmed a couple very low hanging branches off the apple and the aspen tree. Because i had already trimmed them i decided to try dyeing with the leaves. I'd heard some pretty impressive results and had to try for myself. Anyway...i stripped of all the leaves and cooked both the apple and aspen (separately) for an hour or so. the results are really lovely!

apple leaves--first bath, second bath

aspen leaves--overnight soak, 20 minutes soak...as typical i find that a shorter soak gives a much clearer, cleaner yellow.

Wow! Those are beautiful shades. I love what the aspen leaves did. It's amazing what you can find in nature, isn't?
