Sea Song
Each day at dawn he sailed away
To cast his nets onto the waves
I walk these cliffs gathering my broom
To dye my cloth fresh from the loom
I find my eyes drawn to the waves
I scan the sea to see his sails
I watch the waves roll on the sea
They carry my love, carry him from me
As the sun sets I watch the sea
And pray the gods for his safety
As evening falls I see his boat
Fast on the sea and still afloat
But tomorrow dawn it starts again
He leaves and I my watch must keep
I watch the waves roll on the sea
They carry my love, carry him from me
I love the days when he stays home
The snow comes down and the wild winds blow
He mends his nets and I spin my wool
Our home is warm and my heart is full
But for each of those there are many days
I walk these cliffs and watch those waves
I watch the waves roll on the sea
They carry my love, carry him from me
Again he goes and I’m alone
Our baby cries and the wind do moan
The sea grows high and the wind grows strong
I wonder if he will soon be gone
A storm blows in and I close my eyes
And ask the all-father to spare his life
I watch the waves roll on the sea
They carry my love, carry him from me
